Frequently asked questions
What’s in it for us? Why should we participate?
Any monetary benefits?
Will it cost us in any way?
- nothing except postal charges
We cannot draw/sketch
- we need the sketch else how can it be evaluated. However the
judging process will stress more on the design element than on
drawing skills
How can you help us to overcome this handicap?
- we can think about it... not sure if we want to commit anything to
them upfront
Can we enter a photograph of manufactured piece designed by us?
- No... it needs to be an original design that was not manufactured
earlier.
Can we get our design manufactured in silver and enter it?
- why would they want to do that... it is an additional cost they would
incur. Also, who would pay for the silver? So it’s best that
they send in a sketch. However if they want to still send us the design
in silver it would be at their own risk.
How can we be sure that we will get a fair deal?
- World Gold Council is a neutral body and the judging process will
be absolutely fair (masking the names/ photos on every entry form while
the judging process is on).
Will all the designs belong to World
Gold Council?
- Yes... it belongs to the stakeholders of this contest.
Can we later manufacture any of the designs submitted by us?
- No... its becomes property of World
Gold Council. These designs (winning pieces or not) would be
manufactured/ marketed by the Design Contest jewellery partners like
D’Damas as a part of their commercial collection. In case
the design is not manufactured by us for 2 years, then the participant
can choose to manufacture it on their own.
The World Gold Council seems
to be getting a lot of designs for free with no benefit to the designer?
- These are the terms and conditions of the contest, as it is with
any other contest. For e.g. in a Slogan contest, all slogans
sent to the organizing body/ company become a property of that company
irrespective of the fact that the slogan wins any prizes. Also, pls
note that World Gold
Council (& the Design Contest stakeholders) is spending a lot
to stimulate the market in regards to better designing standards and
it is only fair that subsequent to the opportunity given to the participants
via this Design Contest, that their entries become a property of World
Gold Council (& its stakeholders)
Can photo copies/ xerox copies of designs be sent ?
- No. It should be original hand drawn sketches drawn by the individual
himself and not xerox copies of designs already circulating in the
market.
Should there be a set of three compulsorily, because I am an expert
in necklaces and not so good in other things ?
- It should be a set of three, otherwise the judges may reject your
entry, even though your necklace design is good.
It is costly for us to send it by courier, can we give it to our
President of the Association ?
- You could hand over all the sketches/application form to the President
of your Association subsequent to which Retail Jeweller or Art of Jewellery
(our logistics partner) would collect and send it to us. Alternately,
you could send it via normal mail to the Post Box addresses mentioned
in the entry form.
Most of us are good in making the designs, not so good in drawing,
we have it in our mind, but unable to put it on paper. Will you give
us some consideration ?
- The judges will take a reasonably fair judgement, given the designs
are coming from diverse communities (designers/ students, housewives
as well as Karigars).
Should I colour the designs ?
- If you would like to put colored stones or beads, you may colour
to give the manufacturer of the design an idea.
